Boiler service in Drogheda

A yearly service is the simplest way to keep a boiler safe, efficient and reliable. Most manufacturers ask for one every year to keep the warranty valid, and early autumn, before the heating goes on full time, is the best time to book.

Gas boilers can only be serviced by a Registered Gas Installer (RGI), and you can check an installer's registration on the Gas Safety Ireland website. Oil boilers are serviced by oil-fired heating technicians, many of them OFTEC registered.

An oil service usually means cleaning the combustion chamber and heat exchanger, replacing the nozzle and filters, checking the burner and controls, and a flue gas test to make sure it's burning cleanly. A gas service includes a combustion and flue check and a safety check of the boiler. Ask for a written record of what was done.

Book a service sooner if the boiler is making new noises, the flame looks yellow or sooty, you can smell oil or fumes, or it keeps cutting out. A carbon monoxide alarm near any fuel-burning boiler is a cheap and important safeguard.
